Dare to be Different

From Lady Gaga to Taylor Momsen, Katy Perry to Bjork, Madonna to Courtney Love... who is taking their trend setting to extremes? And is it helping their or career or damaging it...?

Obviously the first celebrity that comes to mind with regards to wacky fashion is Lady Gaga. Although she is undoubtedly the most famous artist in the world right now she is bound by her style and essentially "forced" to dress up all the time - her identity as an artist is dictated by her outward appearance. We can't deny that we love her creative and outlandish style but I just wonder how much longer the star can keep it up for

Taylor Momsen has literally grown up in front of our eyes, from little Jenny Humphrey in Gossip girl to teen aged rock star in The Pretty Reckless. She has a sensational voice for a girl her age but are her clothing choices age-appropriate? Many of her younger fans barely recognised the actress turned singer when she made her first appearance as the lead singer of her rock band. She seemed to go from wholesome tween sensation to hard core rock chick in a matter of months...

Katy Perry seems to be getting the "different" style right with her quirky looks and hair. She is by no means defined by her style yet we love watching out for what she does next

she is somewhere between pin up girl and cartoon character and we love it!

And she has great red carpet style too...

Will you dare to be different? ;)

Oscar Fever

With the announcement of the nominees for the 2012 Academy Awards yesterday I found myself getting quite excited -  it's Oscars time again and this means one thing: snuggling up on the couch in my pj's with a huge bowl of popcorn watching the A-listers strut their stuff on the red carpet.

I am always glued to the screen for the arrivals but my attention tends to dwindle when the show actually starts, as im sure is the case for most people... It's an incredibly long winded ceremony with all the good bits like best actor and best picture spaced out few and far between.

That aside, its an annual event that I rarely miss and if I do, i flip through all the channels the next day looking for the red carpet hit's and misses and they never fail to entertain me.

I have put together some of my favorite and some of my absolute worst dresses over the years

My favorites...

Penelope cruz in Versace
at the 2007 oscars
Julia Roberts in her Valentino gown
at the 2001 ceremony

Michelle Williams in a gorgeous
Vera Wang design at the 2006 awards
Halle Berry in one of the most
famous Elie Saab gowns at the 2002 Oscars

Charlize Theron walked away with a best
actress award in this Gucci gown at the
2004 Academy Awards

Angelina Jolie in Marc Bouwer
at the 2004 event

Rachel Weisz wearing Vera Wang at the
2007 Academy Awards
Cate Blanchette in a yellow Valentino
dress at the 2005 ceremony

The worst I have ever seen...

Whoopi Goldberg wore this shocker
to the 1993 event
Cher at the 1998 awards show

Everyone remembers Celine Dion's
backward suit she wore in 1999
Demi  Moore thought it was agood idea
to wear shorts to the prestigious event in  1989

The infamous swan dress Bjork
wore to the 2001 awards
Uma Therman gets it very wrong at the 2004
Academy Awards

Gwyneth Paltrow had no support in
this number at the 2002 Oscars

Green with Envy

Green has hit the runway and every red carpet (worth being on) with full force. Whether you are envious or wouldn't be seen dead in this unusual choice, however, is entirely up to you. If you are bold enough to try out this sensual shade make sure you stick to a few simple rules:

1. Choose the right green - you dont want to look like you're wrapped in seaweed nor do you want to glow in the dark
Good Green
Bad, bad green!

2. Choose the right length for your body - green is already a daring choice so don't over do it
Victoria gets it so wrong with this
tiny mess of a mini dress
Rihanna gets it right with  this floor
length off the shoulder gown, showing
just enough skin
3.Accessorize correctly - keep it minimal and keep it cool
Kate Moss looks fab in this gorgeous green maxi dress
with a funky black leather jacket
4. If you're going to a special event keep it elegant, ladies - it's easy to look like a prom queen gone wrong

Madonna shows us exactly
how NOT to wear green to
a special event
Angelina and Mila look absolutely
stunning in their floor length gowns

5. Men can wear green too! yes, it is possible and sometimes it looks damn good
Pair up a dark green shirt with a black blazer and you have a winner
