Dare to be Different

From Lady Gaga to Taylor Momsen, Katy Perry to Bjork, Madonna to Courtney Love... who is taking their trend setting to extremes? And is it helping their or career or damaging it...?

Obviously the first celebrity that comes to mind with regards to wacky fashion is Lady Gaga. Although she is undoubtedly the most famous artist in the world right now she is bound by her style and essentially "forced" to dress up all the time - her identity as an artist is dictated by her outward appearance. We can't deny that we love her creative and outlandish style but I just wonder how much longer the star can keep it up for

Taylor Momsen has literally grown up in front of our eyes, from little Jenny Humphrey in Gossip girl to teen aged rock star in The Pretty Reckless. She has a sensational voice for a girl her age but are her clothing choices age-appropriate? Many of her younger fans barely recognised the actress turned singer when she made her first appearance as the lead singer of her rock band. She seemed to go from wholesome tween sensation to hard core rock chick in a matter of months...

Katy Perry seems to be getting the "different" style right with her quirky looks and hair. She is by no means defined by her style yet we love watching out for what she does next

she is somewhere between pin up girl and cartoon character and we love it!

And she has great red carpet style too...

Will you dare to be different? ;)

Fashion Inspiration: Dita von Teese

The porcelain skinned, burlesque beauty epitomises femininity in her pin up 40's style clothing. Born Heather Sweet, this stunner was a performer from the start, joining as many acting and dance classes as she could. At the age of 16 she became obsessed with fashion, particularly lingerie- then and there she decided to pursue a career in erotic entertainment. She also attended classes for historic clothing design.

She began her career at the tender age of 18 in a strip club and by her early 20's she was already a renowned party entertainer with Palyboy showing great interest. Hugh Hefner had her pose in over 30 different issues and she fast became known as the "Burlesque Fetish Queen"

It was Dita's transition into international live performances that got her the most attention, especially her stints with the Pussycat Dolls. She became a household name instantly, men loving her for her erotic beauty and woman adoring her impeccable taste in clothes. Her relationship with the highly controversial musician, Marilyn Manson kept her in the spotlight for even longer, with them attending many awards shows and red carpet events together. The relationship eventually evolved into marriage, albeit a very short lived one.

The controversial couple

Dita has her own clothing line "Muse" which is a capsule collection, comprised of only five pieces including her famous vintage inspired dresses

Now, we love Dita for her glamorous berlesque acts but we love her more for her retro-fabulous fashion sense, with her combination of vintage fashion and gorgeous colours. Here are some of my personal favorite looks for the burlesque queen

Summer Updo's

In summer when the heat is beating down on your delicate skin, and all that hair at the back of you neck just doesn't seem to help at all!

Best summer looks of 2012 would just have to be the side Fishtail

Sided Fishtail
Take your hair to one side and split it in half.

Once you have done that, fishtail the one piece and secure it with an elastic band, and do the same with the other.

The final step, secure the pieces with bobby pins, if some pieces fall out don't worry about it! It will give the look a little character!

And of course the messy bun!

Very Important: Remove all knots and tangles from you hair so that its easier to manage.

Divide you hair into 2 parts and comb the inside to ruff your hair a little and adding a little volume as well.

Bring the halves together, brushing the surface to smooth it.

Quickly twist the halves together until it coils into itself.

Tuck the loose end of the hair under the roll, and pin it down so it doesn't come loose.

Pin, as close to the scalp as possible, all the loose hairs, and secure the bun so it doesn't fall out.

Who better to give us an example of a sleek pony tail than Blake Lively.

The way I do it, is to add a little bit ouf mousse into my hair, just to keep all the flying pieces in place.

Take your hair back and pin it there, you will see that your fringe is falling all over the place, so take those pieces, and straighten them with a straightening iron, and pull them back.

Once that is done, then tie you hair up quite high, in the center of your head.

Pin up all lose ends.

Hope this helps on those hot sunny days!
